10 Things Kore Cares Has to Offer as a Leading Home Care Employer in South Dakota

Here are 10 things the Kore Cares team does to set themselves apart as a home care employer of choice in South Dakota:

1. Training

At Kore Cares we believe training is important. We don’t just train on day-to-day operational tasks but we also train on what some call “soft skills”. To learn more about our partnership and culture training with Think 3D click here. In addition to training with Think 3D, we also provide personal and professional development opportunities. We bring in local experts to educate our team and provide opportunities to attend local educational conferences.

We provide training that is not required in the home care industry such as Certified Nurses Aide training, CPR, Teepa Snow dementia training, and have a whole host of specialized online learning training. Another thing you will find at Kore Cares but not at all home care agencies is a training room equipped to provide hands-on training with personal care.

Each of our offices has a training and mentoring program to support our new hires. We also do supervisory visits, gather feedback from clients and co-workers, reviews, unlimited introductory training (as much as you need!), periodic check-ins, etc.

2. Performance Reviews

Knowing what is expected of you is not always a given. “My first few jobs in health care I honestly did not know what was expected from me and because of that I was so nervous for my annual review because I had no idea if I was meeting expectations” said Gabby Hoing, CEO.  At Kore Cares, we do 90-day reviews. Prior to the review, employees do a self-evaluation, and during the review, we go over both management and employees’ evaluations. We do reviews every three months to ensure we have intentional time to connect with our team, provide timely feedback and so team members can provide feedback to us.

3. Consistent Coaching

Employees consistently provide feedback saying they prefer regular coaching to know how they are performing. Our 90-day reviews help us coach up and not just pull people aside every time there is an issue. If the only time you talk to your team is when there is an issue, are they going to want to have a conversation with you?

4. Let Your Team be a Part of Solutions

“I cannot tell you how many meetings I sat in as a CNA where we got scolded or told all of the problems and never got to help be a part of the solution. At Kore Cares we believe in letting our team have a voice and own their part in helping to solve problems. Solving problems does not have to reside solely on the leaders’ shoulders.” said Gabby, CEO.

At Kore Cares we encourage input in all-staff meetings, send regular surveys where employees can voice which changes are important to them, and adjust training schedules around employee preferences.

5. Show Appreciation

We show appreciation to our team by sending thank you cards, and birthday cards, honoring employees of the month and employee of the year, and we celebrate people on their anniversary. How many places have you worked where there is a big party when someone leaves and never a celebration for each year someone has worked for you? We choose to celebrate and honor time with Kore Cares rather than only celebrating accomplishments when someone is leaving.

6. Clear Communication

Have you ever heard someone use fluffy speak? They say a lot of words but you are not sure what they mean. Brene Brown says clear is kind. Communication does not have to be overly complicated. Tell people what you expect and what you need. Frustration is the lack of exceptions being met. A team wants to know what is going on in the company. People want to know what is expected of them and what they can expect from you. This can be hard to do in home care, so we must be creative in our strategies. We have found videos to be a great way to communicate major announcements to a team that spans the state.

7. The Dream Manager

This consists of connecting your employees’ dreams to their jobs. People do not work for a company. They work for their family, their lifestyle, their dreams. How is their job helping to fulfill their dreams? How are you, as an employer, helping grow your team personally and professionally? Kore Cares has invested in providing employees with opportunities for growth in their personal and professional lives by hiring in Think 3D, a local agency that focuses on improving company culture, we also provide access to Dave Ramsey’s Smart Dollar program, invite our team to leadership seminars, and provide a wide variety of online courses for additional learning.

8. The Behavior you Permit is the Behavior you Promote

What behaviors are you permitting in your work or home that are negatively affecting those around you? To address unproductive or negative behavior do not come for the person, come for the behavior. Love the person, address the behavior. We believe it does not help our team by not addressing issues. Issues in the workplace affect everyone, and it is best for all to get to the root of an issue before it goes too far.

9. Recruitment is Everyone’s Responsibility

Everyone should be a part of designing the workplace. What are the characteristics of the people you want to work with? Who do you want to go through life’s challenges with? Recruitment is not just an HR thing, it is everyone’s responsibility. How do you want the work environment to feel? How do we work together to create that? Work together to make the best environment for everyone.  Drama-free, respect, appreciation, etc.

10. Culture

As mentioned above, we use Think 3D to help us promote a positive company culture. Every day you carry a log and have a choice about which fire you want to put that log on. Are you putting the log on the toxic culture fire or the ideal culture fire? Are you demonstrating behaviors that contribute to a positive culture? Are you inspiring others to contribute to a healthy culture?
